Why: We need a space of international exchange and strategic thinking among comrades working on socio-ecological struggles and transformation. This is not a conference, but a space of alliance building and co-thinking!
When and where: November 1st in the morning until 3rd November in the afternoon, in the Casa del Popolo of Grassina, near Florence, Italy. We’ll arrange an excursion to local movement spaces (Mondeggi Commons, possibly the GNK factory occupation) on Sunday afternoon.
Aims: We want to develop shared regional analyses of problems and challenges, and talk about the strategies and tactics we are drawing on to build counterpower and non-extractive and non-imperial modes of socio-ecological reproduction. Mutual learning and listening, building shared horizons and strategies, bringing together different realities and geographies, with formats ranging from discussions to workshops to mapping sessions and field visits.
Topics: Our aim is to explore translocal and transversal connections between struggles. Here are some of the topics that will surely be part of this discussion:
- Agroecological struggles and farmers protests (celebrating the forthcoming translation of our ‘Transforming Agriculture and Beyond’ book into Italian).
- Ecosyndicalist struggles and networks, learning from the local GKN factory occupation.
- The renewed need for internationalist spaces of organising and encounter on a European scale and beyond.
- Strategies and tactics for allying decolonial-antiracist-feminist-ecological-labour struggles in the current climate of war and in the face of different kinds of reactionary forces.
Programming: This will be completed in September in dialogue with many participants, to facilitate maximal exchange and discussion. For those who can’t join for the entire time, there’ll be a public event one evening so you can still come by.
The vibe: Come and bring your hypotheses, strategies and tactics, local and regional experiences, doubts and burning questions, inspirations and radical joy!! We want for this to be an intense space of engagement and collective thinking, celebration and asking difficult questions, building alliances and shared horizons. Giving each other strength and perspectives for the coming winter.
Food and accommodation: We’ll be providing some free meals (vegetarian/vegan) and attendance is without cost. Unfortunately, we can’t provide travel funding, but we can possibly help you find cheap/free accommodation. We’re meeting at the Casa del Popolo in Grassina, near Florence, a space that’s partly wheelchair accessible. You can get to Grassina with a bus from Florence that takes 30-40 minutes. We’ll send you more details once you register.
